Barefoot in the Park, by Neil Simon, is a sparkling, witty romcom set in New York. Written in 1963, it was a huge success on Broadway with Robert Redford and Elizabeth Ashley in the main roles, and was equally successful when made into a film in 1967, again starring Redford, with Jane Fonda as his co-star.

Newlyweds Corie and Paul Bratter are moving into their first apartment, chosen by Corie. Paul is a straight-laced lawyer, while Corie is a free spirit, willing to try anything. The apartment, a tiny sixth floor walk-up, is a challenge from all points of view, notably because of their exotic neighbors, particularly Victor Velasco, an eccentric single man who lives in an attic upstairs. Corie’s widowed mother is a frequent visitor, and Corie has the brilliant idea to play matchmaker. Friction and fun abound!

Corie et Paul Bratter, jeunes mariés, emménagent dans leur premier appartement, choisi par Corie. Paul est un avocat très sérieux et conventionnel, tandis que Corie est plus libre d’esprit, prête à tout essayer. L’appartement, un tout petit logement situé au sixième étage sans ascenseur, est un vrai challenge de tous points de vue, notamment parce que les voisins sont assez… particuliers. Victor Velasco, un célibataire excentrique qui habite à l’étage au-dessus en est l’exemple parfait. La mère veuve de Corie leur rend souvent visite, et Corie a la brillante idée de jouer les entremetteuses. Les tensions et les situations amusantes se multiplient…
