Just beyond the Paris region, the landscape quickly changes from suburban streets to peaceful woodland trails. The route combines well-maintained forest paths with slightly wilder sections, creating a refreshing change of scenery without requiring a complicated journey.
The forest itself is a large woodland area with an extensive network of paths and trails, making it a popular destination for walking and outdoor activities near Paris.
There are no long-distance transfers, complicated logistics or demanding technical sections.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS?
Saint-Germain-en-Laye Forest: Explore the extensive Forêt domaniale de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, one of the major forest areas in the Yvelines. The forest covers around 3,533 hectares and contains a large network of woodland paths and avenues.
13.8 km Forest Loop: Enjoy a circular route starting and ending at Maisons-Laffitte Station, allowing us to experience several different sections of the surrounding woodland.
Early Autumn Scenery: October brings a beautiful seasonal atmosphere to the forest, with changing foliage, fallen leaves and cooler walking temperatures.
Quiet Woodland Trails: Move away from the city and into peaceful forest surroundings, with a mixture of maintained paths and more natural trail sections.
Nature & Photography: There will be plenty of opportunities to photograph woodland paths, trees, seasonal colours and the changing autumn landscape.
Social Hiking: This is more than simply following a trail. We'll walk together at a relaxed social pace, with opportunities to chat, take breaks and meet other participants.
Maisons-Laffitte Bakery Stop: After completing the loop, we'll have the option to stop at a local boulangerie for a coffee, croissant or pastry before heading home.
 
TRIP DETAILS
Start & End Date: Saturday, 3 October 2026
Meeting Location: Maisons-Laffitte Station
Start & finish at the same station.
Meeting Time: 10:30 AM. Please arrive a few minutes early so we can begin the hike on time.
Finishing Time: The estimated return is around 3:30–4:00 PM, but this can vary according to weather, trail conditions and group pace. The optional bakery stop will take place after the hike.
Hiking Distance: Approximately 13.8 km.
Hiking Duration: Approximately 3.5–4 hours. This includes a relaxed walking pace and short breaks.
Route Type: Circular / Loop. We start and finish at Maisons-Laffitte Station.
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate. The route is not technically difficult, but 13.8 km means you'll be walking continuously for several hours. You should be comfortable with a longer recreational walk.

Please make sure you are comfortable walking for approximately 3.5–4 hours.

How to get to Maisons-Laffitte?
The trip starts directly at Maisons-Laffitte Station, making it convenient to reach from Paris by public transport.
The station is served by RER A and Transilien services.
The meeting point is designed to make the trip simple:
Arrive → Meet the group → Start hiking.
No additional transfer is required to reach the starting point.
 
WHAT IS THE PLAN?
10:30 AM — Meet at Maisons-Laffitte Station:
  • Meet your guide and fellow participants at Maisons-Laffitte Station.
  • We'll introduce the group, explain the route and make sure everyone is ready before heading towards the forest.
10:45 AM — Leave Maisons-Laffitte & Enter the Forest:
  • We begin walking away from the station and gradually transition from the urban environment into the surrounding woodland.
  • The atmosphere changes quickly as we enter the forest.
11:00 AM — Begin the Main Forest Loop:
  • Start the main section of our 13.8 km circular route.
  • Expect peaceful woodland paths, tall trees, fresh air and a mixture of well-maintained and more natural trail sections.
12:00 PM — Autumn Forest Walk & Photography Break:
  • Continue deeper into the forest while enjoying the seasonal landscape.
  • We'll take a short break for photographs, water and a chance to regroup: Autumn colours, Woodland scenery, Quiet forest paths.
1:00 PM — Continue Through the Woodland:
  • Resume the hike at a relaxed social pace.
  • We'll continue through different sections of the forest, with occasional short pauses depending on the group's pace and conditions.
2:00 PM — Scenic Break:
  • Take another short break to rest, have some water or snacks and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
  • This is also a good opportunity to chat with fellow participants and enjoy the atmosphere.
2:15 PM — Final Section of the Loop:
  • Begin the final part of our forest route and gradually make our way back towards Maisons-Laffitte.
3:30–4:00 PM — Return to Maisons-Laffitte Station:
  • Complete the approximately 13.8 km loop and return to Maisons-Laffitte Station.
  • The exact finishing time may vary depending on walking pace, trail conditions and group breaks.
4:00 PM onwards — Optional Boulangerie Stop:
  • Once we're back in Maisons-Laffitte, those who wish can join for a relaxed coffee, croissant or pastry at a local bakery.
  • A simple and very French way to finish the day.
