Difficile d'évoquer Sonny Rollins sans penser à la mythique formule du trio sans piano, dont le maître du saxophone ténor a fait l'un de ses terrains de jeu favoris. C'est dans cette lignée que s'inscrit le trio Sylvain Beuf, Diego Imbert et Franck Agulhon, créé en 1998. Trois albums, une complicité forgée au fil des années, puis plus de vingt ans de chemins artistiques différents...  

Figure incontournable du jazz français, Sylvain Beuf s'est imposé par la richesse de son jeu, son lyrisme et la qualité de ses compositions. Lauréat du Prix Django Reinhardt, d'un Django d'Or et d'une Victoire de la Musique, il a partagé la scène avec Martial Solal, Michel Legrand, Richard Galliano, Ray Charles et bien d'autres. À ses côtés, Diego Imbert, contrebassiste parmi les plus sollicités de sa génération, et Franck Agulhon, batteur au swing subtil et à l'écoute remarquable, forment une section rythmique d'une rare élégance. 

Avec ce concert, les trois complices rendent hommage à l'un des plus grands improvisateurs de l'histoire du jazz. Plus qu'un simple tribute, c'est une célébration de l'esprit de liberté, du goût du risque et du dialogue qui ont fait de Sonny Rollins une légende, portée par trois musiciens qui se connaissent par cœur.

It is hard to mention Sonny Rollins without thinking of the legendary piano-less trio format, which the tenor saxophone master made one of his favourite playing grounds. It is in this tradition that the trio comprising Sylvain Beuf, Diego Imbert and Franck Agulhon, formed in 1998, finds its place. Three albums, a bond forged over the years, followed by more than twenty years of separate artistic journeys...

A leading figure in French jazz, Sylvain Beuf has made his mark through the richness of his playing, his lyricism and the quality of his compositions. A winner of the Django Reinhardt Prize, a Django d’Or and a Victoire de la Musique, he has shared the stage with Martial Solal, Michel Legrand, Richard Galliano, Ray Charles and many others. Alongside him, Diego Imbert – one of the most sought-after double bassists of his generation – and Franck Agulhon, a drummer with a subtle swing and remarkable musical intuition, form a rhythm section of rare elegance.

With this concert, the three musicians pay tribute to one of the greatest improvisers in the history of jazz. More than just a tribute, it is a celebration of the spirit of freedom, the taste for risk and the dialogue that made Sonny Rollins a legend, brought to life by three musicians who know each other inside out.
