We can speak of a “predicament” when we find ourselves in a delicate, difficult, and/or embarrassing situation.
Based on this definition, the “predicament” has quite wide potential for play in kinbaku. Like many terms associated to our practice, it is very unique to each person or pair. During this workshop, we’ll discuss Docvale’s “predicament” approach, particularly its intellectual and psychological aspects. Of course, we won’t neglect the physical aspect, given how closely the physical and psychological are intertwined in rope play.
We’ll discuss false dilemmas, discomfort, aibunawa, and semenawa (Docvale will provide his definitions for these terms during the workshop).
The workshop will primarily take place in semi-suspension, as the support provided by the floor is often very conducive to practicing the “predicament.”
Pre-requisites :
Participants should ideally be used and comfortable to practicing together and must have clearly defined the boundaries of their interactions in advance.
Those being tied should be comfortable with fairly restrictive partial-suspension and/or full suspension.
Those doing the tying must:
- Have a well-mastered Gote/TK knot for suspension.
- Be accustomed to performing suspension.
Having participated in the Atelier Simonet semi-suspension course for at least 6–8 months is also sufficient.
Material :
A minimum of 8-10 jute ropes, ideally 6mm in diameter and averaging 7-8 meters in length will be required.

I started to perform and teach shibari in France and internationally in 2012. The psychological aspect of kinbaku being at the center of my practice, when I discovered Naka Akira's semenawa I decided to dedicate myself to it.
Thanks to an assiduous practice with my partners I managed to 1ind a way towards my own style.
The challenge for me is ambitious: to reclaim the values and aesthetics of my predecessors while bringing my own singularities.
To synthetize my vision of kinbaku I would highlight these following issues and desires: "Revisiting the roots of kinbaku, always searching to deepen the intimate and emotional dimension, while integrating and developing more contemporary techniques on security and anatomy."
Today my kinbaku is constantly evolving but always centered on my desire to better perceive and understand others.
Since 2018, I am in charge of Atelier Simonet in Paris, recognized in 2019 as an of1icial Naka style studio by Naka Akira.
