Née en 2018, La Copule est un duo, Matthieu Guillin et Loïc Varanguien de Villepin, aux compositions électroacoustiques où s’agrègent la voix et ses ersatz.
La Copule stimule, irrite, séduit. On veut s’en approcher, l’explorer, la voir avec toute l’intensité et la clarté que jettent en pâture Loïc et Matthieu. Ecouter La Copule, ce n’est pas pour s’approprier leurs musiques, mais en faire l’expérience, en constater son existence physique. La musique de La Copule est singulière et nécessaire. Dans le cadre de leurs performances, Loïc et Matthieu semblent n’admettre aucun compromis avec le réel. Ils l’effacent par le geste, le bruit, le cri. Pour le formater à nouveau. Voix, éructations, basses profondes et scalpels numériques, ce jeu (voix & électronique) rebondit, tiraille et envoute. C’est nous plonger dans une conscience accrue de l’énergie. C’est saisir la beauté rugueuse qui se construit et quelque chose aussi de « la révolte de survie » face à ce monde.

Formed in 2018, La Copule is a duo consisting of Matthieu Guillin and Loïc Varanguien de Villepin, whose electroacoustic compositions combine the voice and its ersatz versions.
La Copule stimulates, irritates, seduces. We want to get closer to it, explore it, see it with all the intensity and clarity that Loïc and Matthieu throw at us. Listening to La Copule is not about appropriating their music, but about experiencing it, observing its physical existence. La Copule's music is unique and necessary. In their performances, Loïc and Matthieu seem to refuse to compromise with reality. They erase it with gestures, noise, and screams. To reformat it. Voices, belches, deep basses, and digital scalpels—this interplay (voices & electronics) bounces, pulls, and captivates. It plunges us into a heightened awareness of energy. It captures the raw beauty that is being constructed and something of a “revolt of survival” in the face of this world.

About La Copule
Matthieu Guillin divides his work between composition for live performance, acousmatic composition, improvisation, and sound performance. He draws inspiration for his work from the humanities, such as anthropology and philosophy, as well as from the hybridization of his practice with other artistic fields. He uses a method of writing specific to electroacoustics, a system that connects spaces, situations, and perceptual distortions that are too complex to compose in traditional musical notation. He develops an oral scoring process when working with performers to seek new ways of conveying musical intention. Each of his projects is rooted in a quest to deprogram our listening habits in an attempt to increase our ability to perceive diversity and singular strangeness.
Loïc Varanguien de Villepin, after training at the Conservatory, founded the Limbes company with Romain Jarry in 2001. As a duo, they have been staging unique and transdisciplinary creations for over twenty years. His practice of opera singing (contralto) led him, through these encounters, to work with his voice as a sound artist/vocalist in several experimental music groups. He has collaborated with Franck Vigroux, Rébécca Féron (harpist), Vianney Oudart (organist), and others. In 2018, he and Matthieu Guillin created La Copule, which is part of the Tsuku Boshi Records label. Since 2013, he has been directing the artist residency Les Bazis in Ariège. Performance and dance artists are invited to practice their arts in a rural setting, creating a cultural dynamic in this Pyrenean region.
