Organised together with the House of European History, this tour takes you on a journey to discover the hidden side of waste treatment in Brussels, in the past and today.
It begins with a guided visit of the exhibition "Throwaway – The history of a modern crisis". From the industrial revolution until the current crisis, through the wartime shortages and the post-war rise of consumerism, the exhibition traces profound changes in the way we manage and perceive waste.
After seeing the exhibition, the tour moves from the museum to the canal area of Brussels, an important axis of the city’s waste management for many years. You will stop at little-known places where waste is recovered, processed and reused.
An unexpected way to get to know your city better!
This ride is initiated by the House of European History, as part of a series of urban waste safaris, organised by a group of European partner museums.
