McCoy Tyner a traversé le jazz comme une force de la nature, pianiste de Coltrane, architecte du son modal, voix incontournable d’un demi-siècle de musique. Tyner’s Legacy rend hommage à cet héritage en puisant dans son répertoire, mais aussi dans celui de ses compagnons de route — Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson — tous liés à cette époque charnière où le jazz a basculé vers quelque chose d’inédit.
Un trio piano, contrebasse, batterie, rejoint par le saxophoniste Sylvain Beuf : pas une reconstitution, mais une conversation vivante avec une musique qui n’a pas pris une ride. Laurent Fickelson, au piano, connaît intimement cet univers. Marqué par les coltraniens, il a notamment joué aux côtés des frères Belmondo et de Yusef Lateef, une filiation qui résonne naturellement avec l’héritage de Tyner. À ses côtés, Fabien Marcoz à la contrebasse et Pierre-Eden Guilbaud à la batterie forment avec Sylvain Beuf un quartet de musiciens rompus au jazz moderne, où l’écoute, l’énergie et la liberté du jeu donnent une nouvelle vie à ce répertoire.
