Porté par le pianiste Ruddy Boa, ce projet est une invitation à découvrir ou redécouvrir le Gwo-Ka, un rythme emblématique de la Guadeloupe, sous un jour nouveau. Après « Tribute to Lockel & Gwo-Ka Modèn Explorations » (avec un passage enflammé au Baiser Salé en 2025), ce concert prolonge une aventure musicale qui a commencé en 1969, lorsque Gérard Lockel a fait entrer le tambour Ka sur la scène du Cinéma-Théâtre Le Plaza. Une révolution : le Gwo-Ka quittait alors son cadre traditionnel pour devenir une source d’inspiration sans limites.
Avec « Echoes of the Plaza », Ruddy Boa et ses invités repoussent encore les frontières. Entre compositions originales et hommages à des figures majeures comme Robert Oumaou (GwaKaSonné) ou Kafé, ce projet mêle le Gwo-Ka à d’autres univers musicaux : le jazz contemporain de Kris Davis, Vijay Iyer ou Danilo Pérez, et même des influences de la musique européenne du XXᵉ siècle, comme celles d’Arnold Schoenberg ou d’Olivier Messiaen.
Un moment rare pour (re)découvrir aussi le Karuka, un instrument unique imaginé par Ruddy Boa en hommage au Gwadlouka de Gérard Lockel. Une expérience vibrante, où tradition et modernité se rencontrent pour créer une résonance inoubliable.

Led by pianist Ruddy Boa, this project is an invitation to discover or rediscover Gwo-Ka, an emblematic rhythm of Guadeloupe, in a whole new light. Following on from 'Tribute to Lockel & Gwo-Ka Modèn Explorations' (with a fiery performance at Baiser Salé in 2025), this concert continues a musical adventure that began in 1969, when Gérard Lockel brought the Ka drum to the stage of the Cinéma-Théâtre Le Plaza. It was a revolution: Gwo-Ka left behind its traditional framework to become a boundless source of inspiration.
With "Echoes of the Plaza", Ruddy Boa and his guests push back the boundaries even further. Between original compositions and tributes to major figures such as Robert Oumaou (GwaKaSonné) or Kafé, this project blends Gwo-Ka with other musical worlds: the contemporary jazz of Kris Davis, Vijay Iyer or Danilo Pérez, and even influences from European music of the XXᵉ century, such as those of Arnold Schoenberg or Olivier Messiaen.
A rare moment to also (re)discover the Karuka, a unique instrument devised by Ruddy Boa as a tribute to Gérard Lockel's Gwadlouka. A vibrant experience, where tradition and modernity meet to create an unforgettable resonance.
