In the aftermath of the First World War, the ULB was (already!) faced with a significant increase in the number of students. The rue des Sols site, where the University was based, was developed to accommodate them, but this soon proved insufficient. In 1920, the City donated land on the Solbosch site and in 1921, the University was able to rely on several private donations, including a large-scale funding from post-war American relief and a loan from the City for the construction of buildings. Finally, in 1922, the Solbosch was established as a new model campus in Belgium and the headquarters of the University in the making. During your tour, you will visit some of the historic buildings on the campus and learn about the patrons and donors who contributed to ULB's development.
