NEREID - A European Tapestry
About
A European Tapestry: Where Folklore Meets Poulenc and Schumann

Embark on a musical voyage with NEREID on the 3rd of October!
Composed of four singing friends – Eloïne, Sofie, Lara and Esther – NEREID is a Belgian female a cappella quartet dedicated to exploring the beauty of four-part harmonies through a repertoire that bridges countries, cultures, and eras.

In A European Tapestry, the quartet weaves together masterpieces of the classical repertoire and traditional songs from across the continent. France and Germany are represented by the timeless voices of Francis Poulenc and Robert Schumann, while the folk heritage of Sweden, Estonia, Scotland, Georgia, Greece, North Macedonia, Portugal, Spain and Italy unfolds through lullabies, poetic songs and traditional melodies.

From the serene landscapes of Scandinavia to the warmth of the Mediterranean, through the Balkans and the Caucasus, this programme invites audiences to discover the many colours of Europe's musical traditions. Though diverse in language and style, these works are united by universal themes: love, family, spirituality, contemplation, friendship and human connection.

The programme includes selections from Poulenc's Quatre Petites Prières de Saint François d’Assise rearranged for female voices, two pieces from Schumann's Romanzen für Frauenstimmen, and a collection of folk-inspired pieces that range from meditative lullabies and lyrical poems to vibrant traditional songs.

Through the intimacy of the unaccompanied human voice, NEREID will weave together the shared stories that connect European cultures across borders and generations, in an evening of reflection, beauty and discovery.
