Sotiris Tsolis ne joue pas de la batterie : il la réinvente à chaque geste, dans une approche où la tradition devient matière vivante et le rythme, un langage poétique. Percussionniste et compositeur grec, il puise aussi bien dans les musiques populaires de la Méditerranée que dans le jazz contemporain, les textures électroniques ou les formes libres de l’improvisation. Son parcours est à la hauteur de sa quête artistique : formé à Athènes, puis à New York et à Paris, il s’impose progressivement comme une voix singulière de la scène jazz européenne. Lauréat de plusieurs distinctions dont le premier prix du concours de composition de la Fondation Onassis, il a été récompensé pour son audace artistique et la profondeur de son écriture. On a pu l’entendre dans de nombreux festivals prestigieux — North Sea Jazz Festival, Jazz à Vienne, Sónar, Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival, entre autres — où son jeu intense, précis et organique ne laisse jamais indifférent. Ce soir, il ouvre la soirée au Baiser Salé avec un concert d’une heure, où l’improvisation se mêle à une écriture dense et habitée, avant de laisser place à un jam ouvert à tous. Une invitation à entrer dans une musique généreuse, vivante, en constante exploration.

Sotiris Tsolis doesn't play the drums: he reinvents them with each gesture, in an approach in which tradition becomes living matter and rhythm a poetic language. A Greek percussionist and composer, he draws on the popular music of the Mediterranean as well as contemporary jazz, electronic textures and free forms of improvisation. His career has matched his artistic quest: trained in Athens, then in New York and Paris, he has gradually established himself as a singular voice on the European jazz scene. Winner of several prizes, including first prize in the Onassis Foundation composition competition, he has been rewarded for his artistic daring and the depth of his writing. He has performed at many prestigious festivals, including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Jazz à Vienne, Sónar and the Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival, where his intense, precise and organic playing never fails to impress. Tonight, he opens the evening at Baiser Salé with an hour-long concert in which improvisation mingles with dense, inhabited writing, before giving way to a jam open to all. It's an invitation to enter into a music that is generous, lively and constantly exploring.
