Fruit d’une quête transculturelle afro-diasporique, Kikun Pelu Mi Wa « peindre avec mes origines en Yoruba » est un projet très personnel et ambitieux nourri par les racines afro-cubaines aussi bien culturelles que religieuses de Ricardo Izquierdo, ce qui marque dans sa carrière une nouvelle écriture musicale. Il nous plonge au cœur des premières influences de son enfance au cœur de la ville portuaire de Matanzas, l’un des principaux berceaux de la musique afro-cubaine. Cet album est l’aboutissement d’un long travail d’analyse dans le processus de création et d’écriture où se tissent une singulière rencontre entre ses origines et le jazz.
Il a composé la musique pour cette formation à géométrie variable et s’est entouré de musiciens avec lesquels il collabore depuis de nombreuses années. On y retrouve une fluidité de jeu, qui reflète un subtil dialogue, une complicité tissée au fil des années.


Fruit of a transcultural Afro-diasporic quest, Kikun Pelu Mi Wa “painting with my origins in Yoruba” is a very personal and ambitious project nourished by the Afro-Cuban roots, both cultural and religious, of Ricardo Izquierdo, which marks in its career a new musical writing. He takes us to the heart of the first influences of his childhood in the heart of the port city of Matanzas, one of the main cradles of Afro-Cuban music. This album is the culmination of a long work of analysis in the creation and writing process where a singular encounter between his origins and jazz is woven.
He composed the music for this variable geometry formation and surrounded himself with musicians with whom he has collaborated for many years. There we find a fluidity of play, which reflects a subtle dialogue, a complicity woven over the years.
