Avec Ear Witness, Simon Spang-Hanssen engage un quartet de jazz contemporain où l’écriture et l’improvisation se confrontent en continu, dans une esthétique ouverte, héritée de ses collaborations avec des figures comme John Tchicai ou Michel Portal, entre rigueur formelle et liberté de jeu. Au piano, Mario Canonge, trajectoire entre Martinique et Paris, Ultramarine avec Nguyên Lê, jeu percussif et harmonies métissées nourries de jazz et d’influences caribéennes, présence essentielle de la scène hexagonale. À la basse, Linley Marthe, ancien membre du Joe Zawinul Syndicate, reconnu pour sa puissance et sa virtuosité, un son dense, précis, immédiatement identifiable dans le jazz fusion contemporain. À la batterie, Adriano Tenorio, héritage brésilien et circulation européenne, collaborations avec Mayra Andrade ou Gregory Privat, un jeu souple, structurant, très ancré dans le rythme et le mouvement. Ensemble, un langage collectif tendu et organique, où chaque voix garde son identité tout en construisant un ensemble cohérent, avec en filigrane des extraits du futur album Seconds Ago de Simon Spang-Hanssen (sortie 28 août 2026) et un hommage à Félix Sabal-Lecco.

With Ear Witness, Simon Spang-Hanssen brings together a contemporary jazz quartet in which writing and improvisation are in continuous confrontation, in an open aesthetic inherited from his collaborations with figures such as John Tchicai and Michel Portal, between formal rigour and freedom of play. On piano, Mario Canonge, whose career has taken him from Martinique to Paris, and Ultramarine with Nguyên Lê, whose percussive playing and blended harmonies are nourished by jazz and Caribbean influences, make him an essential presence on the French music scene. On bass, Linley Marthe, former member of the Joe Zawinul Syndicate, renowned for his power and virtuosity, a dense, precise sound that is instantly recognisable in contemporary jazz fusion. On drums, Adriano Tenorio, with his Brazilian heritage and European influences, and collaborations with Mayra Andrade and Gregory Privat, plays with a supple, structuring style that's firmly rooted in rhythm and movement. Together, they create a taut, organic collective language, in which each voice retains its own identity while building a coherent whole, with extracts from Simon Spang-Hanssen's forthcoming album Seconds Ago (out 28 August 2026) and a tribute to Félix Sabal-Lecco.
